In order to form a habit, one should assign that habit with an identity

It is a lot easier to form habits and actually stick to them, if I assign that habit with an identity I want to associated with or that I want to become.

Becoming the type of person, that I want to be, brings with it the positive traits, that are associated with the chosen identity. Don't worry about outcomes and focus on inputs instead, with the input in this case being an specific identity.

The key is focusing on creating a new identity first. A behavior is simply a reflection of an identity. What you do now is a mirror image of the type of person you believe that you are (either consciously or subconsciously).

Examples

  • "I want to read more" → "I want to be a reader"
  • "I want to eat healthy" → "I want to be a healthy person"
  • "I want to do more sports" → "I want to be an active and fit person"
  • "I want to write something" → "I want to be a write"

How to do it
